Ramblers' Accommodation Finder
The
Ramblers' Accommodation Finder gives walkers a unique database of places to stay that are specifically
tailored to their needs.
Each property listed displays icons displaying whether or not they provide walker-specific facilities such as:

Packed Lunches are available

A Drying room is available
-
All dogs are welcome
The system empowers each advertiser to create their own advert. They can specify the size of the advert, the amount of text, a photo and even a highlight to help their advert stand out from the crowd.
The process of entering an advert is broken down into steps and logical stages. Each stage clusters together questions that are related, such as address details, facilities and pricing. Each of these stages can be completed, saved and revisited until the advert is complete and can be finally published.
A powerful part of the system delivers a full export of the adverts that are exported directly into Quark Express. Quark Express is a desktop publishing piece of software, in this case the software is used to produce a handbook called "Walk Britain" listing all the adverts in a handy travel guide style listings book.
Searchable Mapping
When searching for somewhere to stay that revolves around outdoor pursuits
(especially walking) it's really beneficial to choose somewhere that's
going to be in walking distance of routes you are planning to enjoy.
This is why the mapping feature of this project is a fantastic solution. Users of the system can locate the part of the country they wish to explore and then all the relevant accommodations in that area are presented on a familiar Google map interface. The map can be scrolled, zoomed and filtered in a powerful yet intuitive way.
Each accommodation type is shown as a different icon to help users locate which particular type of place they wish to stay. Also listed alongside the accommodation icons are details of Ramblers' organised walk starting points, helping members join in with local groups while visiting a new area.
